The June 8 to 11, 2017 event included the exhibit titled the “Original Boise Valley People” that opened on June 8 at the Idaho History Center. It included stories, photos and artifacts featuring the Boise Valley tribes removed from the Boise Valley. In addition to the annual sharing of culture, traditional foods and oral history, the Boise Valley tribes honored Major General Gary Sayler because he retired, as he was instrumental in getting opportunities for tribes. He was instrumental in getting opportunities for the tribes to meet with various state and city officials, along with hosting the event at Gowen Field.

Gen Sayler expressed his appreciation to guests and veterans acknowledging the Warrior Spirit A-10 jet behind him. He said the veterans have the warrior spirit amongst them in battle - they were tested and victorious. “I am overwhelmed by the gifts, thank you for the honoring ceremony but really why you come back is because it’s like a family reunion for all of you since you’ve been scattered over the years,” he said. “We are happy to host you, I am deeply honored and I hope to see you again next year but I won’t be wearing this uniform.”
